Cacao, also known as “the Food of Gods” has been revered and used by our ancestors and peoples in Central and South America for medicinal and ceremonial purposes. It has been used as a part of birth and death rites, for purification and healing and also as a daily practice to connect with the heart and to others. Indigenous cultures in Costa Rica drink Cacao in the morning before speaking so that the first conversations they have with their clan are ones with an open heart. In Mexico, when the indigenous warriors are coming home from battle, they will drink the Cacao to replenish their strength. As a form of purification, the medicine works on the body to accelerate the heart rate. The heart then begins to pump faster, moving and cleaning the blood. It can also create a temporal fever and in some indigenous cultures when someone is ill, they are given cacao to trigger this fever in order to heal them.
Cacao is a subtile yet profound Plant Medicine. If one is open, they are able to experience a strong connection to this plant. There is a powerful Spirit in the Cacao which is able to hear your intensions and bring them into your reality. Cacao opens the connection to Spirit World, it can help us to meet our higher selves as well asraise our vibration so that we become more in alignment with who we truly are.
The Cacao Ceremonies that Alison leads are not a typical new age Cacao Ceremony. Alison has studied this medicine with her Maestros (Master Shamans) in Costa Rica and brings back with her a deep connection to this medicine and it’s uses for healing. The Cacao she uses is sourced from Costa Rica and is prepared specifically for each ceremony, cooking for over 6 hours. The medicine and ceremonies can bring about profound epiphany, deep healing and visions. Each ceremony includes Shamanic Drumming as well as the singing of Icaros (healing songs of the plants). She is grateful to her teachers and to the plants for guiding her in bringing this powerful medicine to the world.
Preparation:
It is suggested to eat lightly on the day of ceremony, not after 4pm. For a deeper preparation you can eliminate drugs, alcohol, red meat, pork and hot spices for several days prior to the ceremony. By being as light and clean as possible, you will be able to perceive the effects of the ceremony at a deeper level.
